Ok, so I walk into my living room this morning and check on my babies. Everyone was doing ok so I fed them a good portion of blackworms til their little butts were nice and plump. I leave the room for about an hour and return to find the water all cloudy!!!!!:nilly: AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

My litte females' tummy must not have agreed with the food so she spat it all back out. Of course my initial instinct was a water change.

I didn't do a massive one rather a few small consecutive ones to minimize stress to the rays. After about four 25% changes the water has cleared immensly. The temperature has stayed constant. The rays seem to be a little labored in their breathing but other than that they are moving about.

I don't have a test kit because I ran out and have to buy a new one later today. So I don't know the water params but yesterday everything was perfect.

Should I be really concerned about the labored breathing? I am going to keep an eye on them. I don't want to mess with the water too much but should I do another change later?

These litte guys are always keeping me on my toes. They are going to give me an anurism but I love them.

get some pix of them... i noticed when i got my wild rays, they like to gorge until they puke.... i dont think they are use to a food source that comes every day... i think thier instict says eat eat eat eat and then thier body cant handle it... they will learn better, but i would suggest another water change lets see some pix of them... see if they are true hystrix or not ;)

I have had rays gorge themselves until they puke. Probably what happened. When you have multiple rays some tend to eat more that the others.

do you keep your black worms rinsed clean and alive???

My 2 baby motoro rays sometimes get a little stressed (heavy breathing) when I do my 50% water changes every second day but they seem to be doing alright. They have graduated from black worms to frozen mysis shrimp. I feed this to my new aro and 2 baby gars and what ever settles to the bottom feeds the rays. They are about 4-5" in size.

I rinse them twice a day and make sure to pick out any deads.

those must be some big black worms! or do u use tweezers and magnifying glass? how often do u feed them and roughly how many milliliters of black worms are u feeding them?

Well dead black worms float where live ones sink faster, so I scoop them out with a small brine shrimp net. I think this was just an accident on my part. I feed them blackworms every other day and have gut loaded ghost shrimp available for them at all times. The shrimp are loaded with veggie waffers and mixed veggies. What happened was I fed them til they were plump the day before and I was trying to get my new ray to eat (they all are in quarantine in this one tank) and I think the one that puked just ate too much. Everybody is doing well and I am improving my filtration as we speak to prevent tradgedy in the future!
