I have never kept them because I never had room for a shoal and they are shoaling fish, they will mix with other large barbs also. This is the current info that I found, Hampala macrolepidota: up to 28" but not often over 24", considered semirare in pet trade but considered a sport fish where native (most of Southeast asia), feeds mainly on insects but also eats small fish if given the chance, it is a major predator on juvie channas in the wild where it is fished for under the name of jungle perch. It is often seen feeding on insect hatches in large shoals near the surface, It likes clean water near 7 pH and temps in the mid 70s F. The black bar tends to fade with age, here is a picture from fishbase of a nice adult.
