Just recently getting into predatory cyprinids and I'm really digging the hampalas. I know there are 2 distinct species that are in the aquarium trade and several others that aren't too familiar in the hobby. Currently looking for some so let me know if you guys know where to get macrolepidota or dispar! Who keeps them and please post some pics if you do. :)

I think someone has those on their list right now, though for the life of me I can't say who. I want to say Rapps. I like the look of those as well, they're really cool fish!

I'll look around and see if I can find 'em.

I want to mix them with my goliath and I read they have slow growth which is good. I believe rapps had dispar a while back. I hope he brings more in but thanks Rob. I'm probably going to post a WTB thread in the marketplace soon.

I hope you get some, I think they'd make great dithers.

I know they're not cyprinids, but check out tarpons, too. I had one with my GATF and I consider it to have been vital in breaking him. They make wonderful punching bags, they're probably the best ATF dither IMO.

I do like tarpons but they might outgrow the goliath. I want to replace the tinfoils with the hampalas.

I asked about them a while ago and got some good info. I will definately get some when I have the space.

This is true, I forgot your guy is still pretty young. I got my last one in the same order as my GATF. When they came in, the GATF was 2.5" and the tarpon was 5". The tarpon had a head start and was a much faster grower. The GATF eventually managed to harass the tarpon literally to death, but this was just before he broke onto pellets and was desperate.

I'm going to get another tarpon soon now that my GATF is pushing a foot long. I'm gonna try to get one at about 5" and hope that he takes a long time to catch the GATF. All in all they're great fish. I'd highly recommend one once your little guy gets a bit bigger. :)

Sounds good. I will think about the tarpon once I get a bigger tank. My goliath is already on pellets so I'm sure he will play nice to other fish in the long run. One of my lfs has 8"-9" indo pacific but its too big. Definitely a nice fish that I would love to add to my collection someday.

Nice! I'm getting an Atlantic tomorrow. I wish one of the vendors that shipped had an Indo-Pac! I'd love to have a pair, I can only ever seem to find one or the other. :irked:

Hey Rob, a while ago you had the problem that you were moving and probably could not keep most of your fish. Now you are getting new ones, whats happened?
