Hey everyone,

I would like to attempt to hand feed my peacock bass. Does anyone have any recommendations?

He is about 7 inches. He is currently getting fat off the the consistent school of gambuisa, shrimp, and killifish I supply for him. I don't really monitor how much he eats, but every once and I while I'm lucky enough to see him burn one down and engulf it. I refill the stock when there are only a few fish left, then I put in about 40 minnows and they're gone in a week. He is growing like a weed due to this. It's awesome.

I understand I will have to stop this supply of fish to do so, but how long should I wait till I try to feed him? Should I wait till he is starving? Like a couple days? And how should I start at first? I am also worried about him eating his tank mates (specifically a small Warmouth the other fish couldn't fit in his mouth), so I don't want to starve him too long.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks,
Cray

I used to hand feed my bass and aros silversides. Feeders arent really the best diet. Dont add any more feeders and try some silversides. The small ones should work great in the package.

They aren't feeders. They are wild caught (I can hear the aquarium enthusiast grumbles as well as the conservationist grumbles so save it! haha I understand what I am doing isn't ideal for most.) I figured I could skip the fiscal commitment and quarantine process if I did it that way haha! I have fed the little buggah some silversides, so I'll go to my silverside spot and catch a few and this out.

You buy silversides somewhere, eh? There's a stream by my house with a heap load of em, mate. Pretty little buggahs, right? They look fantastic in an aquarium, but do very poorly.

Thanks again for the tip mate.
