So my question is, how many of you guys/girls have your fish eating straight from your fingertips? I have had pretty good luck with this, including my JD, Severum, both cats, Chocolate, and probably the easiest of all my oscar.
My angels, figure 8 puffer, green scat, mono's, and archer (who actually just rips it out of my hand and runs away with it) are all being hand fed, very fun! somtimes the BGK will take it too
Ive heard alot of people trying this, I have done this to a few of my fish but I dont like fish begging for food at the surface, I always think theyre gonna jump out.
My O's used to eat from my hand. My dominant one used to let me pet him till the other two paired up and started beating the snot out of him. Then he became skittish. After watching my Red Devil's eating habits I'm a bit hesitant to try hand feeding him. With feeders, he doesn't swallow them whole like my O's used to. He maims them, fin by fin, then grabs them in his mouth and shakes them like a dog playing with a chew toy. When the feeder is finally expired, then and only then will he eat them. My fingers are far too valuable to me to let some bastard fish chomp them off. Now, my clown loaches, that's another story!
When I had 2 Channa bleheris, they would curl up in my hand, then I would lift them out of the water and watch them eat frozen cubes of worm. This might of killed them eventually, they had swimming problems afterwards and died.
So be carefeul when you handfeed you fish, or make sure your hands are clean!
I hand feed my aro, my monos, and my rtc. I love hand feeding my rtc. He normally eats like a brute, but when I feed him by hand he is ever so gentle about sucking the food out of my hand. I love it.
