Hand feeding?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
First put your hand in with the food and wait until it sees the food and then drop it to him. Then they will start to associate your hand with food. It's all about patience. It worked on my oscars. Now even when My hand is in there for anything like moving a plant, they follow me around looking for food lol

x2 just drop it infront of his hiding spot... with your hand in the tank so it is associated.. once he comes out to grab the food with your hand still in the tank, hold it from where you usually drop it from... and pretty fast he'll be eating from your hand.. took most my spineys a few weeks to become hand tame. They don't have much for teeth, but they can "nip" fairly firm. my 20" M dayi has surprized me a time or two but never even come close to doing damage. they will become quite fearless.

You can get a clear length of 1/2" or 3/4" tubing from the LFS and use that to put the food right where you want it anywhere in the tank. The clear tubing lets you see the food as it travels down, and since its in a protected tube, the other fish cant get it.

I hate getting nipped. I've never gotten used to it.

I feed my zebra eel small live night crawlers. The worms have to be live an wiggling pretty good. I use my long pincher that I got from petco an I drop them in of it's face. Some times I have to scare back my severum, an ctenopoma cause they are beasts when it comes to live worms. I'd start with that an you can gain its trust. Them once it's use to getting food that way you can try your hand.
