I notice quite a few people on here are hand feeding their fish. Ive always wanted to do that.

So my question is:

How do you guys get your fish to hand feed? Any tips you want to share with us. And is the same technique used for petting a fish as well?

Thanks guys!:)

I accidentally fed my hand to a 5 inch oscar. He lept right out and bit me before I could throw his food in. Scared the crap outta me, but didn't do any damage at all.

I know mine jumps and bites me all the time. While im feeding, water changes and for fun. Hes crazy! :screwy:

Just hold a piece of shrimp in your hands loosely.

I'm currently trying to get my two new/young GTs to get accustomed to me, they used to spook when I went near the tank so I would sit next to the tank for 1/2hr a day just to get them use to me being there. Now I am teaching them to eat out of my hand, what I do is get a piece of food as hold it in the water as still as I can until they come to get it, if they are too afraid I drop it when the get close, slowly they are getting closer and closer. They used to run as soon as I got near the tank and in two weeks they are getting with in an inch of my hand to take food. Patting is just the next step, but I find smaller fish dislike it cause they get pat to roughly but my O's didn't mind after obtaining a length of 9" or so.

Persistence, slow movements and their favorite food is the key.

or starving them for a few days, thats what worked for my angels, bichir, and knifefish. theyre to smart to starve themselves to death just cause it might be a big hand giving them the food.

Easiest food to hand feed is earthworms. Just dangle half in the water.
