Hey everyone,

I am getting another larger aquarium soon as my 55 is just not doing it for me. Since I will likely be moving short distances quite a few time over the next couple of years I figured 90 gallons all glass tank was a good tank for me to move up to.

The main family of fishes I like are large SA/CA cichlids.

Here are my questions,

1) Can 2 average strenght guys move an empty 90 gallons tank without killing themselves and the tank in the process? I see they are 170ish pounds empty....

2) For those of you with mid size tanks like this one, does a 90 gallons tank offer more options then a 75 gallons tank? I see its the same size but 4 inches taller...so should I just go with the 75 as its lighter by 30 some pounds empty?

3) Does anyone know the price difference between all glass and acrylic for a 75 or 90 gallons tank?

4) Is a 75/90 gallons tank still to small for large cichlids such as JD, Jags, and O's due to the foot print only being 4 feet long and 18inchs wide?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

yeah, you will be fine with two guys. A 90 isnt very hard to move. It is small enough to fit through doorways with plenty of space to spare. I move mine by myself by walking it on the corners. My wife and I got it up 2 flights of stairs without any problems. She isn't very strong either.:D

1 guy can move a 90g, but i would use 2 to be safe
Are you kidding me!!!I will PaypPal you 500$ If you send me a one minuete video of YOURSELF,or just one person picking up,and moving a 90 Gallon tank.....It's dimmensions make it too akward to carry alone.....and don't respond telling me you can slide it on the floor, not sufficient for moving.

I have a 90 and a 75 glass tank. At these sizes an acrylic tank doesn't make much sense IMO. 90 is thicker glass and taller so a bit heavier, but not too hard to move. Plus the extra height gives a nice effect of being larger and gives you more choices in decorations. It also gives large fish like Oscars a little more room to move around.

I'd have to agree, no way one person is moving a 90 glass tank. 2 can if your strong.

Easy now, it can be done. i have successfully moved my 6x2x2 glass tank alone (although i will never do that again ) By "moving" i dont mean to hoist it up over your shoulders or anything, im talking moving it with a handtruck or flat cart. getting up onto its stand (i built mine low about 2 ft) can also be done albeit a very long and painstaking procedure. But like i said i recommend getting help to be on the safe side. and no..lol i wont post a video of me lifting a tank. (besides the only empty i have is a 10g)

Very sorry if this is starting to derail a little.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys.

I now know that I want glass and not acrylic and that I might as well get a 90 gallons tank over a 75.

By the sounds of it I won't be able to move the tank with just me and my friend as I am not very strong. I better get an extra friend to help I guess.

Thanks again!

Good luck! And an extra friend never hurts. When you mentioned you would be moving alot, did you mean long distance moving or local moves? Just curious, ive moved alot too (military) and the hard part is when you get to a new duty station you dont always have a friend to help with tasks like tank moving lol. At least with local moves, you can always have your friends to help you out.
