Hi Everyone,

We have a 30 gallon tank in our apartment is East Village, NYC with a 7 inch flowehorn that's almost 2 years old. I am currently on vacation in Florida, and only my roommate is home. Somehow, all 3 of our hang on the back filters stopped working. My roommate is clueless when it comes to fish and has no idea how to fix the filters.

If anyone is in the area, and would be willing to save my fish and make a house call, I would compensate $$. It should not take longer than 30 minutes. Please help, thank you.

Best,
Alex

Facetime or WhatsApp your room mate!
He needs to remove the filters, let them drain into the tank, place over a bucket and remove the pump.
A quick clean and reassemble, hang on again, fill with water and all will be good again!

Thanks for the responses, I've already facetimed the roommate countless times. It appears sand got stuck in the impeller. I had him clean it out and still nothing. If anyone is local please contact me.

Next best thing would be to ask him to go and buy a new filter quick and use the old filter material.
Does not sound like a fish kind of person and don't think you will have much luck with someone local...
A lot of people are out and about.

Asking people you don't know to stop by I know to help may create a dangerous situation. I agree with L LazyLathe about telling friend to go buy another filter.

I agree it is far from ideal, but as mentioned above, I am on vacation and do not want my 2 year old fish to die.

See if you room mate will do water changes every 2 days with dechlor until you get back . Feed LIGHTLY every other day meanwhile. Place the old filter material in the tank.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. While I'm not in the area to help directly, I recommend contacting a local aquarium service or pet store. Many offer emergency services and could help to fix your filters. Good luck!

When im gone on vacation or for work with no one there, i like to leave an air pump and stone running in each of my tanks thats hooked into a separate circuit than the rest of the equipment, just in case of unexpected equipment failure.

Not necessarily that its an issue here, but i also trust no one to maintain my tank or feed my fish while im away, certainly not someone who is clueless with fish.

Hope this situation is resolved quickly best of luck.
