We dont get many hang on back filters here in the philippines. Im thinking of buying it online but wish to ask a few questions.
1. Will this work if my tank has a brace of approximately 1" all around the rim? (Particularly the aquaclear and emperor brands)
2. Can i stuff this with ceramic rings and filter floss instead of the inserts? Or do i risk clogging the impeller?
3. How does aquaclear 110 compare against emperor 400? Aquaclear is almost twice as expensive at kensfish.

I own an aquaclear 70 and had the Emperor 400. I swithed back to aquaclear after using the emperor. In my opinion the Aquaclear is a better product from a filtration standpoint and overall quality of manufacturing. . I found that the vertical inserts on the emperor were not a efficient as the horizonaly stacked media as far as filtration. I use ceramic rings in a bag I like using the sponge designed for the filter because of the tight fit within the box.

I find the only difference between the AC110 and the Penguin 400 is the flow. AC wins hands down. But the Penguin 400 is an ideal and powerful filter for many applications. Don't discount it.

Ac110 all the way. More storage capacity, flow and reliability plus the peguin just seems cheaply made. I have a ac110 formally known as the ac500 made in 2002 and still running at full gph.

Hands down one of the best aquarium product on the market!

Didnt mean to come off to harsh on the 400 but the AC is also more quiet.

Hold up, the 400 is no slouch. The AC is a superior filter both in finish and function, but the 400 is a fully capable robust HOB. Like anything, it needs to be put into a situation where it can excel, plus the force driven bio-wheels are an added benefit. Cheers to the AC, but a respectful nod to the 400 from this camp.
