After 4 weeks of waiting for nature to take it's course I decided enough was enough and stripped the female. End result is 81 fry. I was surprised to find so many - I initially got 32 and thought that was it but put her back in the breeding net just in case. 10 mins later I returned and found even more fry in the net. All fry have been put into a small tank to themselves. I currently have 2 more females holding

If you are robbing fry then gently stroke the females chin area downwards towards her tail and if she "coughs" then she is empty. If she doesnt then there are still fry within. Sometimes a visual check down her buccal cavity (throat) is misleading but the cough is pretty accurate. Alternatively you can use a small water filled syringe to flush.

many thanks for your suggestion, it was my first time stripping fry so I didn't really know what to expect which is why I put her back in the net after instead of the tank just in case.

Having a closer look at one of the other females her throat area looks just as distended as the one I stripped so I may be doing her also in the next couple of days. This female is slightly smaller and I wonder how many fry I will get from her. My little 1 foot tank is going to be very crowded and will have to look for alternative housing in a week or so depending on how fast they grow.
