i have had my haps for 6 months now. the previous owner breed them like every month or so. for some reason they will not breed. i have even tried adding two more females which brings the count up to 3. help please
Probably don't have the right water conditions. Some cichlids are extremely picky about the time they mate based upon pH and temperature and what not so maybe you can check those and make the adjustments if you need to and see if that works out for you
1. make sure your water quality is on point.
2. add more rock work to provide the females an area to retreat to after fertilization. it is possible that they were holding but either let the fry go too early or ate the fry because they were stressed from the male hounding them
3. try the mirror trick. this will trick the male into thinking another male is in his territory so he'll get brighter and "ready to go" since you only have those 3 fish in the tank
4. if that doesnt work i've heard of another method to get africans in breeding condition. on your next water change add water that's slightly colder than the tank. maybe like 5 degrees lower. i cant explain why the temperature difference does this but i have heard of success stories using this method. i've never had to do this so i cant speak from personal experience. maybe some one else has done this with success???
5. you can add african cichlid salt but that issue is always in debate.
best of luck! hope it works out. i love raising my fry and watching them develop
