It's not just a day for drinking green beer! Just wanted to spread a little Irish cheer on the forums.
The first Irish ancestor of mine (that I can find in records anyway) that came to America was Moses Driskell in 1722. He came from a small fishing village called Kinsale.

It might be hard to imagine today but there was extreme prejudice against the Irish in early America. However, they were eager to work, and took many low paying and dangerous jobs that helped build this country.

Here's a History channel documentary on the Irish in America (open this thread in your browser if you are on mobile and can't see it on the app):

I look black irish, but alas da and sis have blue eyes which means norse or english blood diluting the pure irish awesomeness somewhere in the bloodline.

Da's da came across from Galway, had the name changed at Ellis Island and everything.

Celebrated with some guiness and scotch, am house sitting and didn't plan ahead to bring my honey bushmills with me. Silly boi.

All of my Irish kin came over in the mid 1800s and fought in the Civil War for the Confederacy. Irish Rednecks.
