Hello,
Lately we have started feeding our monitor lizards
chopped up hard boiled eggs everyday along
with thawed pinky mice,

Can we feed either of these to our RTC?
I have tried very small portions and they do
sink my rtc will eat it, but question is
is this a good practice? My understanding
with hard boil eggs are a very good source
of protein with humans and reptiles,
can this be?
Thank You

Haven't heard this question before, and I don't have an answer for you. I would, though, be very curious on the digestibility of the egg in a fish as well as how appropriate those nutrients are for the fish. Maybe an approach looking at the breakdown of the nutrients in a raw egg would be the first question. Then the next important question is what happens to those nutrients when cooked. Third, how do those nutrients compare to a the nutrients in their diet in the wild.

I believe it's a good way to provide a varied diet to your fish, instead of just "the usual." As long as you don't feed it in excess, and instead in moderation, I think it would be very beneficial for your fish.

I know if you have egg-layer fry that's too small for most foods, you can use hard boiled egg yolk which breaks apart in the water in small enough pieces even for the smallest fry.

Ooh! Good point.

i have heard of people feeding it to guppy fry and making them grow like weeds, people also feed the white parts to oscars and such and it makes them grow like weeds, just imagine if he does not eat it and the smell it will put off, let us know if it works i will def, try

I tried a couple of small pieces and my little RTC took very well too,
My large did not,
I talked to my LFS and they said with best results for water quality
to put them in warm water first like a cup or so, and wash the water
out a few times to prevent it from clouding the water,
one thing I dont like about it if you do not make them into very small pieces
they will float, and on the note if you break it up a lot they will eventually
just get sucked into my filter, That last thing I need to is rotten eggs in my filter
media.
So what I do instead I turn off my filter and fish out any excess and I turn it
all back on after, and its seems to work better that way.
Ive only ever heard that hard boiled eggs are excellent for protein with humans
and reptiles (monitors).

Were also thinking of chopping it up and putting into cubes and freezing it
and seeing how things are

I use them often. Hard yolk for small fish and algae grazers, whites for my Oscar, Polleni, Jurupari, etc. By often I mean around once a week.
