hard gill plate

hey i am wondering if its ok to cut the hard part of the arowana's gill plate? has anyone tried it ? if you did, did it grow back???

most of the lfs around my area say that i shouldn't cut it.

Unless your arowana has gill curl then there is absoloutely no reason why you should operate on your fish!
