I have a "free" tank that has the hardest hard water stains ever. I have tried razorblading it off, but the blade won't lift it. Seriously! I can scratch it with the corner of the blade, but that's it. I used CLR and followed the directions, no avail. I poured two bottles of CLR in filled with hot water and let it soak for two days. It helped a little, but the deposits are still there. Any advice?

As a last resort use meratic acid. But only as a last resort. It can damage your silicon seals.

it is spelled muriatic acid; you can get it at Lowes, Home depot, or any pool supply store. It is an acid used in pools. Before careful, the acid will burn skin on contact.

I got a couple of gallons of it. I put the tank on it's side and poured enough acid in to cover the inside of the glass, and then let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. I rinsed it out and there was no change. Is there a different/better tactic I can take? I think I may just use this piece of crap for a feeder quarantine and get a new tank for the stand. :irked:

if that didn't cut it I don't know what would. I know I have used a lemon cut in half, and scrubbed with salt before, (use the lemon as a scrubbie to scrub the salt in) but if acid didn't work I don't know what would....

acid will do it, with mote time, I think. Muriatic acid is a very potent and dangerous thing ( you should not even breath its fumes ).

the acid should work let is sit be careful of acid burn and the vapors I use that stuff to strip concrete at work very dangerous.
