So in putting together my first sump I had a hell of a time hooking the hard plumping to the pump. both pumps I used had a 1/2 inch threaded "spout" that I tried attaching 1/2 to 3/4 inch couple or 1/2 inch barb. I used pumpers tape with five wraps. Every time it leaked when the pump was running. How do I avoid this?

Use paste teflon.

Npt fitting can be a pain to get to seal. Mine are sealed with no Teflon tape I got luck and sealed first try. When I use Teflon tape I don't go more then three wraps across all threads and wrap threads clockwise so when you are tightening the fitting it doesn't try to bunch up the Teflon tape. If it leaks after doing all that usually a half turn with seal it up

Poor charney....doggin him on a public forum like that.

I use regular PVC fitting and don't have a problem with leaks on Mag Drives, by using a threaded Union to avoid wrestling during routine maintenance.

I have lately been switching to Laguna pumps to reduce power usage and noise, here (because they are not threaded, attach a short span of tubing, tightened with hose clamps.

then jam PVC into the tube tightening with another hose clamp, to finish off the rest with hard plumbing..
