Hi all.
I decided to post this review of a product/service because of the high demand for premium black sand to use in our cichlid tanks. I had a terriable time trying to locate some for a reasonable price. The average price was 20 dollars for a 20 pound bag plus shipping. For those of us with very large tanks that can really break the bank.
I found this place online by accident. Here is what i ordered : 200 lbs !!

I ordered 200 pounds of that sand today. It should be here monday i think. I will let you all know.I have to say talking to the man on the phone he was one of the most courteous friendly, helpful , and interested sales people i have ever dealt with. On a scale of 1 (poor ) and 5 (excellent) so far in the process of ordering from them they rate a 5 star rating. If the product is what they advertise I will recommend it to everyone. i read reviews from customers before calling and they were all glowing . So i have no reason to expect anything different. I told him if its good sand and i like it that i would spread the word, he gave me 10 percent off because of that !! So if any of you decide to order from him make sure that you tell him Sue from Ny referred you. LOL.
I did not blindly order on ebay. I called the number on the ebay page for specialty grit Co. He answered right away. I described what i had, what i wanted it to be like (not float into filters) digging fish, etc.. I explained i wanted the finest that would meet those requirements. Because i did that he recommended a different grade sand than i would have ordered. Then i asked him if the black sand was inky or jet black or more of a grey shade. He then told me that he has a new one that is blackest black. He said it will be blacker than the black filters. I cant wait to see. So i recommend when you order from him that you call and place your order that way.I informed him i hate online purchasing and did not have a paypal acct. He took my name and phone number and wrote up a invoice and emailed me the invoice with a simple form for people to use paypal who dont have a paypal acct. Took 5 min to do and i clicked enter . Right away it was on its way. Within a hour i had confirmation that the package had been mailed !!
Matter of fact,I just checked and he has a new listing after speaking to me and doing my order. He now sells exactly what i ordered LOL. (he asked me how to calculate how much sand per tank. I told him a 6 foot tank needed about 100 pounds for 2 inches of sand minimum and that a wider or longer tank needed more. I also told him alot of us like the super black colors and why. Now when i click on his site he had the 200 pound orders and also lots of colors in a different grit size than before. Im real impressed. I believe he is trying to serve our needs in his packaging , product and the way we order.
He said i would actually be getting more than 200 pounds because he tops off the flat rate USPS boxes. he said for example his 25 pound orders actually are delivered with a weight of 28 or 29 pounds each. He estimated i would get 120 pounds for every 100 i order. He said he does that so that the customer gets his money worth and he can get satisfied customers spreading the word. Cant wait for it to get here.
BTW For people who cant get and really want the 3M quartz products i believe i saw it listed there for shipping USPS rates 2 day express. He mentioned 3M and said he carries the same exact product as they so, under a different label.
