Ive had bad luck with plecos. I was going to try again today by buying one. Where should I be at as far as hardness is concerned?

My PH is 7.0
Ammonia NO2 & NO3 are all kept minimal with regular water changes.
I run 2 XP4's with air pumps connected for good gas exchange.
The temp is 87.
Lots of wood and rock.

The only problem I see is my tap water is extremely hard.

Your ammonia and nitrite should be at 0 ALL THE TIME. If they are not, your tank has not fully cycled and maybe killing your fish prematurely.

What kind of rock do you have and where did it come from,it could be releasing something into the water.....BTW,do you still have that big ATF?

My tank has been up for over a year. I cant remember the last time I lost a fish. It was prob a pleco yrs ago.

As far as ammonia and NO2 are concerned they are at 0.

Thanks anyway for your BS answer.

Backyard. I cleaned them before adding them. This isnt a fresh tank. I have fish. Its seems like plecos give me a prob.

Sold the ATF.
