Not much you can do bud. Here's the low down:

Buy RO/DI water
Install RO/DI filter
Install Water softener

I wish that was my problem ... mine tap water just got SUPER soft and it's literally at kh 0 deg ! ph swings, almost lost all the fish cuz it took me couple days to realize what's up ...


peat softens the water doesn't it ? ( will also make it more acidic )

peat does not soften water, but yes it does make it more acidic thus lowering the ph. To soften the water you will have to remove the minerals in it with a RO filter.
