Just curious for those who have hard water how do you soften it up? My water comes from a well and has a pH of around 8.4 and I've added peat to filter and recommend amount of blackwater extract and it lowered to about 8. Should I just add the entire bottle of BWE to my rhom's tank?

Maybe get an R.O unit? I keep my RBP in 7.8 with no issues.

My water comes out of the tap at @pH of 7.8.
I don't do anything.
It's source is Lake Michigan which has a pH of 8.4 and the fish in it, do fine.
Lake Gatun in Panama pH can rise as high as the low 9s, as do the African rift lakes.

I use seachem discus buffer to lower gh and ph. It lowers ph from 8.6 to 6.0 and also lowers gh easily.

The easiest thing to do is try to keep fish in the water you have. It's very possible that your fish won't mind it a bit.
