My 17.5" dragon goby died today. I don't know why. He looked to be in perfect health as far as I could tell, no sign of disease or injury. He seemed to be eating fine this morning. This guy has been with me since I started keeping fish, over 2 years. He was with me through everything I've been with as a fishkeeper, and survived it all. He was both my fiance's and my favorite fish. We will miss him a lot.

I did have a 4" pike cichlid disappear a couple days ago, and while doing my water change after finding the goby dead, I discovered the body of the pike in a filter sock. I suppose I could have had an ammonia spike that killed the goby, although I don't think that would have done him in. He's been through a lot worse than that.

Here are some pics of him (dead first, then alive).

RIP the biggest dragon goby I've ever seen.

The red is on the fins, and that happened occasionally with him. I think it was just a little irritation from the sand.

His stomach did look a little large, but I had fed a decent amount this morning, so it could be he managed to gorge himself before he died. Or maybe the gases from decomposition were starting to build up.

Whatever the reason, I immediately did a 60% water change, and I'll be keeping an eye on my other fish...

Most impressive dragon goby ive ever seen.He was something to see swimming alive thats for sure.I seen alot of nice fish at Conner's but none was the stuff like that goby.RIP.
