So what is the hardiest cichlid species? In terms of surviving the worst conditions. Dirty water, wide range of PH, temperature, etc

My vote goes to the Mayan cichlid with maybe the polleni or convict close second

I had some Gymnogophagus yerbalito fry that I missed when draining out a fry tank. The ones I missed remained in the tank in an inch of water, on my basement floor, in Milwaukee, for in an entire winter.
The floor temp easily dropped to 50'F, and since I didn't know they were there, they were never fed, and had no circulation. I found them in spring when I noticed movement in the water, out of the corner of my eye, they were now an inch long and over summer grew into nice adults in my out door pond until October, where water temps hit highs in the 80s in Aug, and dipped into the high 40'sF in fall.

Crazy but true....Hardiest fish I ever owned was a Wrasse back in my salt days in college. After Ick wiped out my fish I converted the big tank to fresh and stuck a small panther grouper and the wrasse into a 20 gallon. The grouper died. I had no lights on the tank and forgot about the wrasse. The 20 gallon sat under my big tank for 4 months....no heat, filter or food. When I went to move out of the apartment I found the wrasse happily cruising around. FOLKS THINK SALTWATER FISH ARE SO FRAGILE>>>>LOL
