Back in Ontario I used to visit a local landscaping quarry; they sold numerous types of stone, both imported and locally sourced, for pennies on the dollar compared to prices in LFS. You drove in, they weighed your car, you selected the stones you wanted, they weighed your vehicle again as it left and you payed based upon the weight differential and the cost per pound of the type of stone you selected.
Bering terminally stingy, I only ever purchased stone once, a loooong time ago, and have collected my own ever since. But I accompanied several less-cheap friends on "stone-shopping sprees" at the quarry...nothing quite as entertaining as spending somebody else's money...
