I'm looking for a catfish species that will live with convicts, salvini, and jds. I kinda want one that swims around in the daylight, I know most are nocturnal. I don't want a monster either, max size of about 8-10" would be cool, any ideas? I have a 7" pleco already and it gets along fine. any help would be appreciated, thanx.

Try some synodontis.

A lot of the synodontis species would work. One that would work would be the synodontis eupterus. They don't have the most exciting colors compared to the others but it fits what you want. It can hold its own, they get about 6in, and it is one of the synodontis species that I have kept that once aclimated seem to come out quit a bit during the day.

I bought a 5" pictus cat cat today, I really like it but I dont know to much about it. I do know, its not the spotted kind. I cant find too much info on it either any help would be appreciated, thanx.

Cuckoo syndontis (S. multipunctatis)

Synodontis Notatus, Angelicus, Multipunctatus, Eruptus or Flavitaeniatus should all do fine provided with plenty of caves etc. Also Hoplosternum Sp. would do well (I think they have been renamed tho not 100% on that).

If the synodontis aren't what you're looking for, I have kept and really enjoyed Zamora wood cats, cheap and easy, and pretty, and currently have two dwarf giraffe cats. Both species seem to max out about 4 inches. I might be wrong, but I think a lima shovelnose only gets about 10-12 inches, and there are few doradids that don't get huge. A flag tail armored cat (really blanking on species names here sorry) are also pretty cool. Polka dot pictus are great cats- I recommened a school of at least three- they are very active. there are also frequently a variety of glass/sun cats in LFS's- I see them at pet smart alot- they don't get huge, school, and are non-aggressive generally.
