All are hardy. For a 55g, I'd ditch the rest and stick with a severum. You can try some smaller species of plecos such as Ancistrus and dither such as giant danios.

As for food, make sure the fish can consume all foods in two minutes and feed only once a day.

a 55 can house a oscar alone, if your willing to take proper care of your tank. The oscar will be fine for sure for about a year but once he is around 11" you will need to do water changes religiously every week. I prefer a 75 for a oscar although again a 55 will work if you work.

Sorry but the FM and Cons are not really a fish that I would fill a tank with. I can't see myself ever having 4" fish as the main fish in the tank. I usually only use cons and FM ina big tank just to fill it in a bit although the main fish is something much larger.

JD would be ok in a 55 aswell but I hate them because they hide all day and maybe one day if your lucky you will actually see him. sorry not my kind of fish. Believe me Oscars kick ass and it will become like a dog. It will actually interact with you.

Heres a good site for info

I would say the hardiest fish of those that would be good size for a 55 would be the JD's or convicts. Be careful if you get more than one convict since if you get a male and a female you will end up having wayyy to many convicts on your hands. I would probably go with a couple firemouths. I wouldn't consider them as hardy as the other two but they still are. You also will have more options on adding some silver dollars or giant danios, maybe even some rainbow fish since they are not as aggressive as the others. I would stay away from Oscars as they are extremely messy and will require very frequent water changes in a tank that size. If you do make sure to only get one.

PPPFFF community tank. Everyone knows, it's for girls!! LOL sorry just a little bit of borat for everyone.

for a 55 i would go for a female mota:drool: or a jack dempsey, for a community 4-6 firemouths
:ROFL:is it a cat in a hat

Its a Frog NOT

All are hardy. I too like the fm community. You could even cut out a couple of those and add a severum if you wanted. I am with the "other" half as far as the oscars. I don't believe an oscar should ever be put in a 55 unless you have definite plans of going larger. Their attainable size is just too large for a 12"d tank.
