i dont know if this is necessary, but i bought a harness for a nile a while back and never used it.should i start putting my mangrove in it and taking him outside to get fresh air.
y not just set up an open air enclosure outside and put it in there for a hour or so wen its warm out. most lizard harnesses ive ever seen look like the lizards cud just slip out let only them being comfortable with it on .
personally, i don't like these things. If you have to let it roam about outside, you shouldn't need a harness, but if its just for exercise, just let it out in rooms in your home.
They don't like it and it really stresses them out, very bad idea...especially for something like a mangrove that isn't all that handling-tolerant anyway.
Haha, those stupid harnesses are a joke. I remember when I was 14 and bought one for my Iguana. I put it on him and it looked like it was on corect and it fit snug. I took him outside in my front yard and he was chilling in the grass just fine until all of a sudden he took off and slid out of his harness. He ran toward my house into some shrubs and I was freaking out trying to find a 2 foot green iguana in green shrubs. Needless to say I found him after a near heart attack.
If I were you, I would build an outdoor cage for your monitor. Thats what I ended up doing for my Iguana and Baslisks. Didn't we have this discussion before about you building an outdoor cage?
Well it seems unanimous...they suck. I did the same thing as Vicious...bought one when I was first getting into reptiles and ended up with an iguana on the roof of our family room.
The harnesses just add a lot of unnecessary stress on the animal. There is a good change they can be injured if it is put on incorrectly. Plus, I've seen a lot of people who use them but are afraid their reptile is going to escape so they tighten the thing beyond belief and restrict breathing.
Well they're particularly sucky for iguanas IMO because they're sure to break some of their dorsal crest.
Yeah consider building an outdoor pen, or get one of those ferret playpens that are just walls, but rig something for a roof so he doesn't just climb out. I used to just let my savanna roam around outside (with me watching of course). He never tried to run away but he was incredibly trusting of me.
