I keep two spotted cats. One of them is constantly brow beating the other. I have noticed recently that the shorter whiskers that come off the lower jaw are shorter and look "nipped". He constantly hovers around the same area of the tank until the other cat comes around and bullies him out. Is it not recommended to keep two cats? If I decide to return one to the LFS, should I take the meany or the nice one?

I would buy two more to displace the aggression. You could also return the weaker one.

Hadn't thought about buying more...I worry about too many fish in the tank. I already have two plecos, two rosy barbs, one kisser, three bleeding hearts, six bloodfins, one bala shark and two clown loaches. My tank is 55 gallons and I don't want to crowd too many fish in it. Soon, one of the plecos is probably going to have to go back to the LFS cause he is too big. Thanks for the repsonse.

I would get more, I have two in a 75g...well one is a white line pim but you get the idea, close enough. Anyway, mine get along but they have a lot of rooms, when they were in a 29g they fought often. I would also take the clown loach and bala sharks back. Both of them get very large (clowns take a long time though) and prefer to be in groups as well. You could probably just trade them in to.

With most fish except mated pairs either one or three or more is best, 2 just lets the more agressive one pick on the other without having to watch it's back, Same goes for the clowns but they are pretty mellow, a group of five or so is cool because they play follow the leader and sometimes will do loop de loops all in a row. They will get big but very slowly. the bala can reach over a foot inside a couple years and the kissing gourami can get almost as big in not much longer with a good diet. I used to buy several balas at around 1 1/2" cheaply a trade them back for store credit at 5-6" long after a few months. a good diet kept the black and silver vivid and I got a good trade in rate to spend on new ones, food, etc.
