I was just wondering if anyone here has bred common plecos and if they actually had success in a rectangle tank. I just wanna know if it’s possible because I have 2 commons and their getting pretty big so I was curious if I could breed them as well. One of them is about 10-12 inches and the other is about 10 inches exeactly. Do you guys think their mature enough or should I wait? Thanks!

IME commons can be quite aggressive with territories. Cannot say for certain they will fight but from what I’ve seen they can deal out some damage to other fish.

I have never seen them breed in tanks, but there is no reason they can't. Throughout Florida they are definitely spawning at that size. The female should obviously gravid. They usually spawn when the summer rains start. How big is the tank?

Do you even know if it’s a m/f? That’s the first thing you need to know.

They will breed in a big outdoor pond in a tropical environment given there male/female. You need alot of driftwood & caves but in a 55 gal my vote is no.
