I have a BGK he is 14" plus inches and I have had him 8 years. Recently he stopped eating and I posted a thread as I was worried (as you can imagine) about this behaviour. After alot of great advise and discussion he for no reason just up and started eating again as normal. This only lasted 2 - 3 days then again he stopped eating. Since then for the last 2 1/2 months he acts normal, still comes out and investigates as usual but only eats for 2 - 3 days in a row (like a pig) every 2 or so weeks. He looks good and everything else is the same.

Has anyone else every had this happen or have any ideas why he has started this behaviour.

Look forward to your replies.

Cheers

Hi, I think I may have been one of the people from that other thread you posted. I never experienced this with a BGK, but I have with other fish. I know that healthy fish can go days or even weeks with no food and not die. Some guy here had a clown knife go 2 months with no food, then it just ate all off a sudden. Maybe yours has to do with its age. But I know younger fish also do this, so I cant really find an explanation for it.

I knwo some fish go on a hunger strike if they dont like their food. So some people switch it up.

I was wondering whether it had something to do with age. Maybe he didn't need to eat as often but this is still quite unusual behaviour. It's like he pigs out for a couple of days and then just uses up his reserves and then eats again.

It isn't variety as he is offered so many different kinds of food dried, frozen and live I think it is something different.

Any other theories.

I think he may be getting overfed. Maybe he is being stuffed full for two days, then just not wanting to eat.

When you absolutely stuff yourself full of food at christmas lunch you don't exactly want to eat much (or at all) after that.
