ok well just wondering but has anyone else never kept a goldfish on here? i have only had one that i dont think counts, it was supposed to be food for my cichlids, and one survived for a month.

I really doubt that many fishkeepers have never had a goldfish. They are the quintessential fish of childhood. Most people, once getting more interested in the finer details of aquaria, happen upon the fancy goldfish varieties and give them a go. And, as in your case, one may survive as a feeder. Not a pet fish, but kept nonetheless.

You might find a few people who had parents into fish that knew better, so never got their kid a goldfish. I'd think maybe one in ten thousand fishkeepers have never kept a goldfish. Just a guess.

I've never had one. My parents had a tank when I was a kid but I dont remember there being a goldfish, just Zebra Danios and other assorted tiny fish. I've never even had an actual goldfish as a feeder just rosy reds and some unidentified live bearer that turned out to be pregnant.
Dont really want one either, I typically dont care for bright or round fish so Goldies are out.

I used to have a bunch. My favorite was a 9" monster we won at the fair when he was about 1". Lived like 10 years and died of an unknown cause. I used to get them all the time from fairs. Like stated, pretty much every fishkeeper has had a goldfish at one point or another.

I never had one but I did have sea monkeys as a kid. Then a Beta that I fed brine shrimp to, lol. The family had a live bearer tank for a couple years. That was it for about 20 years then I set up my Asian Biotope with my WCMM.
