Have any of you guys cured ich/ick's in your pond before? If so how long did it take you to cure it? Can you give me what kind of medication you used and just any helpful tips on how to cure ich/ick's in ponds. Ive never treated ick's on a pond before.

Some helpful facts you should know:
-The mosquito fish and goldfish are scratching their bodies against the pond liner.
-The smaller koi and goldfish doesn't seem to be scratching their bodies.
-I netted and observed a few goldfish and mosquito fish to see if there were white spots, but there wasnt.
-Fish i have in the pond: 1 baby channel catfish, 4 koi, 12 goldfish.

Do you guys think its ick's? Like i said i didnt see any white spots yet but they are scratching themselves often.

Thank You

Scratching themselves doesn't mean ick, the water could just be dirty and need a good water change

Hi you can try melafix or yellow powder.
Neither of which will be helpful without actually knowing the actual issue. Yellow powder is antibiotic. That does NOT help against any suspected parasitic infection. Melafix will not be any useful either.

Yep. However, there are other parasites that can cause the fish to scratch as well. Flukes and ectoparasites such as fish lice are quite common among coldwater fish particularly carps (goldfish and koi).

I find the quote above confusing. What are the sizes of your goldfish and what strains are they? Are you sure not all goldfish scratch at all? Do you have a spare hospital tank? Place a couple of them in it and put under observation for any possible parasites. In ponds, it is not surprising that a lot of parasites harbor in it especially if you end up with amphibious animals invading the pond. They will carry practically any parasite from other bodies of water to your pond.

Have any of your fish been treated with praziquantel before? If not, I think now is the time you need to treat every fish with prazi as a precaution. 2.5mg per liter is the dosage. Trouble is prazi is also very expensive but it is very practical to treat every new goldfish/koi you get with prazi for flukes before introducing them in the tank or pond.

Most of the larger goldfish that are 10-13 inches are scratching themselves.

The smaller goldfish that are 2-3 inches dont seem to have the problem the bigger goldfish have. These smaller golfish hangs out with the small kois.

All the goldfish i have in my pond are just pond comets.

That actually sounds like either Flukes or Trichodina causing the scratching. My koi were doing the same last year and I did a scrape & scope (take some of their slime and put it under a microscope) and I found both those nasty parasites on my fish.

I treated em with Formalin and they were better in about a week...I needed a ton of bottles of the stuff but luckly its only $1.99 here and treats 400g per bottle.
