has anyone ever kept a mayan cichlid?

im visiting in florida and i have caught a couple half inch baby mayan cichlids (trust me i know they are mayans). im thinking of bringing them home with me. wat requirements do they have? how big do they get? any info will be aprecieated. thanks

yeh i have one thats about 7.5" and hes a mean guy he likes to pick on my 4" convict but they stay around 76 to 78 degrees and i feed him bloodworms, hikari cichlid gold and krill and i cant forget shrimp pellets!

I've heard that they can handle an extremely wide variety of water types from fresh to brackish. Even reports of them breeding in brackish water so I think any cycled tank would suit their needs. GL.

how about max size? i have a 60 gallon tank but its a little crowded

if ure tank is a little crowded already then dont add more fish imo

I would say 150 gallons if you want to have a few...125 gallon for one

You just answered your own question, if you feel that your tank is crowded, don't add any more fish.

If you're tank is crowded, don't add more, but they don't get so big that you need a 125 gallon for one.
