Has anyone ever made plexiglass lids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have mostly plexi lids in my fishroom. The 1/8 tends to warp over time but I just flip them over.I have three 3/8 acrylic lids on my 125g tanks and have no problems with them.I cut the tops with my radial saw

make them out of glass you will be much more happy

Plexi-glass (acrylic) absorbs water vapor. The side toward the tank will be in a higher humidity environment and will absorb more water vapor than the side toward the room. The side toward the tank will become larger because of the water, and thus will warp down towards the tank. If you make them symetrical - without handles or handles on both sides, then you can flip them. By flipping them, the wet side will dry and return to the original size and thus straighten. But in time, the lids will warp again downward.

Acrylic is easier to work with, but I prefer glass lids in the long run. (I have made both.)

Ive used plexi-glass for Lids on my wet/drys. Ive found that 1/8", 1/4" will warp so I brace mine with 1/2" square acrylic rod, seems to give it enough rigidity to keep from warping.

Made some years ago out of 1\4" like every one else says, they bow.
