I was wondering has anyone every put a african pike in a cichlid tank the lfs said it shouldn't be a problem everyone will be ok if they wont fit in the pikes mouth any help would be great

i wouldn't always listen to your LFS employees most are just trying to sell you a fish and dont actually have a lot of knowledge in what is and isnt compatible......anyway back to your question i personally would not put it in with the Cichlids. i found this on http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?genus=Hepsetus&species=odoe&id=666 and most other sites say the same thing

It is usually ok with fish too large to be considered food, although it should not be combined with any aggressive species such as territorial cichlids. It can be combined successfully with Polypterus, other similarly-sized characins and barbs, large Synodontis catfish, Loricariids etc.

The fish can be maintained in groups but if more than a single African Pike is to be kept all individuals should be of a similar size as smaller fish are often harassed to death.

I had a pike cichlid with my peacocks for a while, I eventually had to sell him because he was stressing them all out. Pikes are hard to judge as to what other fish you can mix with them because they are either too aggressive to not aggressive enough for the other cichlids. Its pretty much a gamble, you may or may not have success. The cichlids should be of moderate aggression and of similar size
