Im trying to get a stand for my 80gal acrylic, and i dont have access to any tools to build my own. Custom wood places have min project prices of like 800 bucks which is way to much.

Ive been playing around with this and get to around 400 bucks, but was wondering if anyone else has any experience with this site and if it is worth it, if you haven't but still have any suggestions or opinions i would be glad to hear them. My fish are suffering since i moved in a 55g till i can get a stand for this..

Thanks in advance

Josh

Only tools you really need is a screwdriver or a power drill to build a frame stand. If you take your measurements into Lowes or Home Depot they will cut the 2x4s into the lengths you need normally. Or you could rent a saw from them as another option.

I uilt my frame, added doors, siding, and finishing trim for around 150 bucks...

Neat site but damn... they want me to use 4x4's all around WITH 3/4" plywood facing for a standard 125G tank? :screwy: LOL

Yeah it would be one thing if the stand was the size that larger and larger tanks could go on or you intended to fill your tank with gold or something.

As is 2x4s are already overkill

Personally Rayne, it shouldn't be what they want you to do. Moreso what you want them to do. If they can't or will not do it, then find someone else.

Your stand for your 125 can be built using 2x4's with 1/2" or 3/4" skins & doors. They're just trying to get you to use larger dimmensional lumber so your cost will end up being a but load.

If you search the DIY Stand thread, many proven tank stands have been done this way (made with 2x4's). Even those larger than 125 gallons. I think the largest I've seen made with 2x4's was a 250 gal. but I'm not for certain. The only way to really know positively is to research it by using the "Search" function to the left of your screen.

I hope this helps.

You'll need a few handtools (tape measure, square, etc)...but for under $200, you'll have enough tools to build your stand. Another $200 will buy you all the lumber, hardware and finish materials you'll need.

Do it :)
