has anyone heard of this overflowbow

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are good stuff. I would use them.

They have a bad reputation because their weird siphon tube design is inferior to the generic U-tubes. I forgot what the specific problem was--whether it sucked in bubbles or lost the siphon when the power went out--but the Aqualifter pump is required with this overflow to remedy that problem. A problem that few, if any, other overflows have.

I set up my tank a few months ago and decided to go with a LifeReef overflow: http://www.lifereef.com/siphon.html

Saw this is highly recommended on some other forums, and at the same time, saw people posting issues with overflows that have a built in airline tube. I guess the tube makes it easy to "fix" the siphon, but at the same time is a point of failure for the siphon.

Like I said, have only had my lifereef up for a few months, but so far have been happy with it.

It's not a good buy because it's a lot more than an Eshopps or Amiracle, both of which work better, and not too different in price than Lifereef, which are the gold standard.

Yeah, the Aqualifter fixes the problem...most of the time. But it's a problem that they deliberately created with their siphon design. Why fix a problem when you can avoid it altogether and more reliably?

I had the big one I ran for a few years it worked really good with the aqualifter pump. Just make sure the aqualifter doesnt get clogged it happened to me once or twice I had to just unplug it and blow the suction tube out. I also kept a second aqualift pump on hand in case it ever crapped out. They are cheap enough to keep a backup. The Eshopps are really good and will never lose suction if set up right

i ran a cpr unit for a while and it worked great. but you do need an aqualifter pump. if it gets clogged or stops working, you may flood your tank. id keep an aqualifter on hand
