WOW! That sounds painful! I did have 2 dumb*** roomates in college take a blow torch and heat up a piece of metal and brand themselves when they were drunk, needless to say they regret it alot now.

I doubt it's safe in jail, considering they probably use filthy needles, but if you sterilized the needle, it doesn't seem any more dangerous then a regular tattoo.
