Has anyone successfully treated FISH TB?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think so. I made a data about this as I had it before. I mistook it for bacterial infection and treated with acriflavine and other antibiotics to no avail but it somehow carried on for months which drew my suspicions. It turned out my Melanotaenia praecox as do other young rainbowfish tend to become carriers of Mycobacteriosis sp. As strange as this may sound, the theory seems right. The same situation was discussed by an owner who has been keeping rainbowfish for years (check his site in link below) and a few members including me in Plecofanatics.com a few years back. The only option is destroy all your stocks and start over again. Quarantine every new fish you get and make sure you have no injuries that will allow the mycobacteriosis to penetrate and develop into a granuloma.

Thanks Lup.

How can I definitively diagnosis TB vs septecmia secondary to a differnent bacteria? TB symptoms seem to mimic a variety of of diseases.

I have never had to resorted to treating w/ Abx before. I have started a round of doxy for the time being. I guess I can wait to see if I have any other unexplained fish deaths but as of now I have only had one so far.
