I'm planning to add CO2 to my setup, and I came across this item on the ebay. Seems like a good idea to avoid having to put a diffuser in the tank. And it seems to be the correct size for eheim tubing. Has anyone tried this or something similar? Any thoughts or opinions on it even if you haven't tried it? In the setup diagram, they have it on the filter outlet, but would there be anything wrong with putting it on the intake side? My thought is that would give the CO2 even more time to dissolve.

Not sure how good these are, but have you looked into a DIY external reactor? There's the Rex Grigg design and the 'Cerges' style reactor. I'm currently building a Cerges reactor for my new tank as seen here: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/diy/110100-cerges-reactor-diy-inline-co2-reactor.html

Both of these would cost the same and give excellent results. I believe the reason for having this on the outflow side of the filter is that co2 bubble can damage the impeller of the pump.

Another option for external diffusion is by using a DIY needle wheel pump http://www.barrreport.com/showthread.php/5809-Needle-wheel-DIY-modifications?highlight=needle+wheel

I ran mine into a airline bunghole on my filter effluent, into a spraybar.
It gave the feel of an atomizer, idk how effective it was
i went back to the CO2 ladder. Looked cool for sure.
