I bought a flagtail recently and really like it. I have read that they need to be kept singly or they beat each other, or a "large shoal". Does anyone have first hand experience with multiple specimens? I know they get big, so my 7 ft tank will limit the number I could house. Is three enough? How bad is the fighting? Do they kill, or just harass each other? Does the aggression go away after awhile?
Thanks

i wouldn't recommend it we keep them on their own at work even in an 8ft tank 20 of them just beat the crap out of each other. just not suited to life together in a tank.

the conspecific aggression in this species is insane. You can sometimes get a few of them to work but it's always short term. The best bet is to just have one. I had one that only grew 1" in 5 months so I has to sell it. Pretty cool fish but was just a complete dwarf and got outgrew by my other fish in the 225

Only saw them comm when very small.

It may work. I had a group of 20 in the past. I kinda regret for selling them when I was putting money together fo Shamu. My brother also had three 10in+ for a few years until he got out of the hobby

I had two eventually had to get rid of one. Have to have a pretty good size tank for a school of them.

they do not work with thier own kind in a tank situation, Just keep one. Incidently they will not bother other fish.
