im hoping people will have had these and can let me know how they work. i think the first one might be iffy but most of you should be posting for the second

i have the Penguin 200B. Decent filter for the price but I prefer using an Emperor 280 over any Penguin filter. My friend Cohazard has the filter like that below. Hopefully, he'll see this thread and post his feedbacks.

I used that type of filter before (2nd), and I honestly have to say I wasn't really impressed. Was a long time ago, so I don't remeber the exact model number, but used it for a 20g. Filter gets easily clogged, so the bio wheel won't turn for days until you really clean out everything, plus it only use cartridges. All my HOB's are and will only be Aqua Clears.

My two cents.

I have the mini canister on my kids 10G frog tank. Just got it not to long ago but so far I like it. It is not loud, has good flow, I like the spray bar. One thing I did was toss out the bio rings and replaced them with better ones (Bio Max). The rings that comes with it are very “cheesy”.

I haven't used the canister but I have used the penguin. Spend a little more money and go with the emperor 280. I have one and LOVE it. I also have 2 emperor 400's and love them too. If you go with the canister, make sure the flow is as good at least as the 280. I have the 280 on a 20gal extra tall (like 2 ten gallons on top of one another) and it's the only filter so far to keep it clean.

ok great ill check these things out and see what other people say and ill make a decision! i might not get the emperor filter cuz im on a $20 dollar a week budget and as you know things always break so $20 a week is used up almost every week so i have little extra money for anything more than the bare minimum. :( darn but i will try!

:iagree:
Was never impressed with the penguins and the bio wheel added extra noise. I just ordered the first filter for my dwarf puffer tank. I had always heard good things about it but i can let you know next week how it is.

i put the order in for the bio-wheel and the canister i said since i cant afford any of your suggestions on my own self supported budget of $20 a week. so. ill see when i get them what they are like and post it here. hope all goes well!
