With an addition to our family on the way, all of the rooms in the house are getting shifted around. Some how I managed to work this to my advantage, and will have the opportunity to set up my empty 100 gallon in my office. (Made the current salt water setup so nice that my wife wanted it in the living room for guests to see).
Back on topic, I am in the market for 2 lighting systems. I have the above mentioned 100 gallon that is 48 in and will hopefully house an eel of some sort (still doing lots of research), and the other light will cover four 20g longs. I would like to be able to expand from FOWLR if I want to later with out having to upgrade lighting systems. Basically I found this lighting system online, and was hoping to get some input from other people on this forum.

I do understand that quality usually comes at a price, but this would be a nice option.

if you want an eel good lighting is superfluous as you aren't really going to have a reef tank to speack of.. maybe some soft coral her or there, but if you want to try it go ahead.. take some pics while you're at it :D

for the soft coral idea it's a good enough light.. but you're not going to be able to keep anything too demanding.. because the light and the eel

Alright for the 100g that's fine. Do you have any recommendations for a light that would be suitable for a reef tank? We have a 90 with some polyps and mushrooms under a coral life compact, and I absolutely hate the lighting. Most of the time the actinic bulbs will not turn on, and changing them out is a nightmare in of itself. So I was going to put a Nova on the 90 (living room display), and the coral life on the eel tank(where there would be no corals). The 20 longs however I would like to have the option of keeping any corals/inverts at some point in time.

PC lights, to put it plainly, suck and should never be used.

T5's will work perfectly for your 100g to keep whatever you want, but they must be mounted in the proper fixtures! If you were to use a 4 bulb T5 setup made by someone else (such as Sunlight Supply) you'd get MUCH more light intensity and amount for the same amount of bulbs, because of the much higher quality reflectors. To those who insist metal halides are "required", I've grown out baby maxima clams at nearly 1/2" a month on the bottom of 24" aquariums with SLS Tek T5 fixtures - those things are extremely intense!

You can't really pick the lighting before you pick the animals. You need to know what you will be keeping before you can choose appropriate lighting.

You should be able to keep any corals with your eel - they don't eat coral. Had a zebra moray for forever with no problems. They will eat crabs and the like, however.
