has anyone used pool filter sand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used it in every tank. I've never once had a problem with it getting sucked into the filter.

In my experience, it's a lot cleaner than having gravel since the waste doesn't sink through the crevices of gravels, but just stay on top. When you siphon, just hover 2, 3 inches above the sand and sort of stir the water. It will create movement and the waste will float up thus will be suck away.

Use it in my 125g. It's good stuff. I originally used regular play sand and switched over to PFS. Couldn't be happier with the decision to switch.

Agree with everyone else, it is great. I have never had a problem with it getting sucked up when doing water changes.

I use it on my 36g bowfront, 55, 75, and 220. I used to use gravel, once you use PFS you will never look back. I suggest Leslies brand if u can find it. By far the cleanest brand I have found. As far as getting sucked up during WC's...I use a python, and even with the water on making more suction than gravity alone, the sand makes it almost to the top of the syphon tube then because its so heavy it just falls back down slowly and I don't lose any. HTH

in my 330 and workin on putting it in my 60. will never use gravel again
