Has anybody been able to keep a pair of large cichlids such as red terrors being the largest tried or slightly smaller like Red tiger motagense, grommodes, freddys, or less agressive like gold saums and medium sized pairs like a Hemichromis elongatus or frempongi , convicts, nics, or jacks, if so what was the combo and what size tank did it work it in

umm not sure what you mean do you mean a pair of them with other fish ?

Do you mean more then one pair in a tank ?

ya I dont follow either?

cody what are you saying

i know you have red terrors you should be able to keep them with other comparable sized cichlids

what i am saying is has any body been able to keep a pair of larger cichlids with a pair of smaller cichlid such as a pair of red terrors with a pair of Hemichromis elongatus or a pair of convicts , or a pair of gold saums with a more aggressive smaller cichlid

should work, as long as there is plenty of room, and the smaller cichlids have plenty of hiding places.

a cave with only one opening is a bad idea, too. otherwise, the larger cichlid will just watch the opening, keeping the smaller fish cornered. they gotta have an excape route.

with proper amounts of room, it should be fine.

I kept 3 dif breeding pairs of fish in a 180, Jack Dempseys / Severums / Green Terrors, along with about 6 other larger fish. There was aggression during spawns, and while the fry were around (until they would be eaten) but for the most part they were happy together. As long as each pair has a spot to call home you will be ok I think but you just can never tell.
