So I have a 1/4 tubing connected to a ball valve, hooked up to my drain lines on my tank. I use this for easy testing, I went to test the water and freaked out a bit when ammonia came back at 1ppm. I was seconds away from massive water changes and dosing prime. But I decided to test nitrite to get an idea of how long this has been a problem. I saw that nitrite was zero, so I knew it hadn't been a problem for long.
Then it hit me, the way I have this tubing connected to the drain is with a down facing Tee, so about 2oz of water stay stagnate in the tee. So after I drained that 20z out allowing a new fresh 20z to fill it up I retested. This time I got zero ammonia.
