Hi i have an issue with 2 of my tems. For some reason when they get stressed they develope fungus like patches over there bodies. Ive treated them before thinking it was fungus and it went away. It then came back when i add some new tankmates and then with out treating it it went away. Can anyone tell me what this stuff is and why it only happens to my tems and not my other monos and ocell. Ive also noticed this on fish in fish orders going to my Lfs. They to say its because the fish is stressed out. You might have seen painted glass fish with fungus like patches at your local pet store...well it looks like that.

never with the pbass, but with my large mouth. It's certain spots on the body that the slime coat comes off.

does it look like this?

first I've heard of it. Have you got any pics of your tems with the fungus?

no it doesnt look like that its in balls like ick but bigger....no pic cause i dont have a good enough camera.

This is the best thing I could come up with for now. Found the info on another site.

Fish fungus is caused by fungus species such as Saprolegnia. Fungus spores are present in all freshwater aquaria. A disease outbreak is usually a secondary infection of an area of the fish's skin or gill barrier which has been damaged. A Saprolegnia growth looks like cotton wool. It is essential to prevent the fungus spreading deep into the tissue or over the gills. Livebearers are particularly susceptible to fungal problems which can usually be prevented by adding 0.1% (1 gm per litre) of aquarium salt to the tank.

Fungus Treatment

Treatments (such as Interpet's Anti Fungus and Bacteria No.8) stops the fungus spreading and destroys it. The medicine remains active for several days to ensure full healing occurs.

The best advice for any treatment of cichla sickness is make absolutely sure that your water temp is at 87f. No acceptions. Dilute 1 tbsp of aquarium salt per gallon of your tank in a seperate container. Once the salt is fully dissolved, slowly add it to your tank. Also dose your tank with a product called Stress Coat. It is awesome and highly recommend it. It is made by API

Temp is up there and i use salt......This is something that only happens to my Tems and no other fish or pbass in the tank. Why only them....and remember this is something that has gone away with out treatment before....this will be my fourth time one of my tems has had this happen. But thanks for the info

Sounds like lymphocystis, a viral disease. I can't elaborate as I have to run but look it up. I'll add more later today.

Hey i think its what you said i was just reading up on it and sure enough the pic and the some of the things that can cause it to happen all add up....Thanks for your help

yep...ive only seen it on tems really.
but i think its because tems are much more succeptible to stress than monos or ocells.
especially at a smaller size.
ive bought them that way and theyve healed without any medication since i dont believe in medication...
