I have a 7 inch Jar and when I put my finger near the water he takes a nip lol. It doesnt hurt, but startles the crap out of me. Anyone had this happen and when they get bigger can they like take off a finger??

Really, wow. I have seen larger ones take small chunks out of fish, but that must have really surprised you I have two fairly tinfoil barbs and a oscar in with him now and all are starting to show battle wounds. He tries to attack the barbs the most, but like on other threads I have seen he will probably end up as the only fish in there

When I had my Jardini, I would have to quickly put my hand in the tank when he was at the opposite side when I was moving stuff around and cleaning up, ect. If not, right when my finger tips touched the surface of the water, he would hit my hand with max force. Drew blood a couple times, nothing major, just scares you a bit when you're not expecting it, haha.

They just have to know that your fingers aren't food, so just be smart about how you put your hand in the tank and you shouldn't have to worry really. And they're not going to rip a finger off or anything, haha.

Mine was about 15 inches when this started. Before then, he was a pussy cat. About then he started killing off tank mates too. =/

hahah yeah I was wondering how do you clean the tank and avoid getting bit? drain out half the water and keep him on one side with a large net or something..? what do you guys reccomend?

naw i think they could when bigger i sometimes just hold a whole shrimp and let him have at it. Destroys the shrimp and then comes back for seconds my fingers.

I opened the lid to put food in and before I knew it he came from the other end and had my finger in his mouth. He scared the hell out of me. He never bothers me when cleaning or anything just knows food time.
