I have two 55 gal and a 10 gal tank. One tank has fish. the 10 gallon tank is cycling now I pick my other 55 gal tank up tomorrow after they drain it and give the other fish in there away. The 55 with fish I got a few months ago off of Facebook for free that already had fish It has
8 gold fish
1 beta
1 cat that stays about 5"
1 12" pleco
1 blue crawdad

My 10 gal tank will have some guppies in it for breeding.

Now my question is i went to the pet shop here in town to look at fish they have 3 pacu that's 8" long and two ocars they both 4" and 5" ish long in a 20 or so gallon tank. and are covered with ick. the people had no idea till I told them. I don't really have the most room for a full grown Oscar in my 55 but it would be better then having it stay in there couldn't save both but could at least save one. And I know people keep them in a lot smaller tanks and it would be the only fish that would be in there. Think I could pull it off I would have more then enough filtration for the tank.

I might be misunderstanding, but if you still have the 8 goldfish, They aren't able to stay in the tank. I'm not sure how big they get, but I think maybe 8-12 inches. But Regardless they need to go sooner than later. As nice as it would be to "help" the Oscar I highly don't recommend one in a 55. but technically It can work, my father had one when I was little that lived for 6-8 years in a 55, but the Oscar was only 12 inches long, so he was not able to grow to his full potential. Probably wasn't a happy Oscar either. but I do remember teasing him by making faces at him and watching him flare at me. Lol, anyways personally I say NO. but maybe ask around and see if anyone has a tank large enough for him. the minimum I would house an Oscar again In is a 75. Ideally a 125 because 90 is just taller I think

Well I have had them for almost a year and haven't gotten bigger. And most Oscars don't get over 12" they normally stay between 10 and 12" you will have a few that get 14 ish I had one that I had for 7 years in a 150 gal only fish in there that didn't get bigger then 12" and had him since he was a inch long

if youre keeping your current fish then i'd pass on taking the oscars home.
unless youre ready to change the **** out of the water all the time. sure youre saving them from a small tank and ich now. but down the road your 55 gallon is going to be a small tank. when the nitrates start to tak their toll then youre gonna have the sick fish on your hands.

i wish i could save every sick oscar. and ive seen a lot. but eventually you become the bad fish keeper when you have them in inadequate tanks. and a 12" oscar(not including the rest of your stock) in a 55 gallon is inadequate.

the gold fish I don't know there what I normally buy for bait. Like 25 cents per fish had then for a year never got bigger then a inch or 2. I have 2 55s one has fish the other one doesn't have any fish or anything in it.And would only have one Oscar if I did get it.

just back away from the fish, that's right, just back away. get your 55 up and running and cycled and look for fish appropriate for it. IMHO.
