i have a spare 55 with a nice stand i made last year...i havent been using it ever since my baby aro grew out of it and in to the 200 gal...i only have 3 tanks running now and wouldnt mind another...but what to do...i dont need anymore monster fish...lol...i have enough of those...ive always liked african set ups just never made the atempt...i know the tank is small but i figure i might as well use it...what do u guys think i can keep in there with alot of rock work...and i mean alot...i want it stacked...mbunas??...i would like to have atleast 10 fish in there...what stays small enough??...its a standard 55 gal...48 long...so give me some ideas...tank is cycling right now and already have substrate...just need some rocks and fish!!...also i would really like to have a nice mix up of colors...my wife has always wanted a reef tank and this is closest thing to it in my opinion (rock and alot of colorful fish)...thanks in advance guys

The 55 is a good size for most mbuna and you can definately keep atleast 10 in there. It all depends on which types you like. It can definately be done though and it will look great. Good luck and don't forget....we love pics :)

lol...one sump for all the tanks would be nice...but my house would be crawling with pvc pipes!!!!...it would make water changes and clean up time easier though huh...im running a 20 gal sump on this 55 and maybe a canister...dont know yet...would like to keep it just with sump but time will tell...like i said...im fond of the colors alot of mbunas have but there are so many different kinds and so many different tempermants...but hey thats part of cichlids...i guess im going to start doing my research this week while the tank finishes cycling...from what i see ill have to order my stock online as most lfs here specialize in marine and never really have a variety of any kind when it comes to africans...pics soon....gonna see if i can pick up some rock and get it ready

anyone know a good website to purchase mbunas??..most of my lfs have a very small variety...i want to purchase them all at once also if possible so that they all enter there new home at once...ive had better results with this when it comes to comm tanks...rather then the tank being established and then introducing fish all the time...maybe also a page or site with alot of pictures and small discreptions on the fish???...thanks guys

wow my head hurts from all the info ive read in 2 days...and i feel like i got no where!!..im going to need one of u experts to put together a list for me!!!...lol...i really like kenyi's..and most of the zebra's...yellow labs also caught my eye..demasons and johanis are also really nice...auratus are beatiful...but now what??...i want to get about 4 males in the tank...5 if i can...and about 10-12 females...should i get more females??...whats the max u think i can have in the 55??...maybe 15 fish??...im so lost...i read alot of places all these fish can live together but then i come across stuff that says different...what to do...i could always upgrade later on to a 75 or 90 if i enjoy it and have success with the tank...

man you picked the meanest ones too...

What about:

4 demasoni
1 auratus male
1 johanis
5-6 salousi- reverse coloration of kenyi but similar in look and not as aggressive
2- labs
4- acei

Nothing else...

anyone else?

that doesnt sound bad mike...lol...i knew some of them were agressive...but i didnt know i picked the meanest of the bunch...lol...just my luck...thats a count of 17 fish on that list...will that be ok in the 55???...or will i see myself upgrading??..i mean...all i would need is a tank...everything else from the 55 could be used...i could even extend my stand for a 90...so its not a big deal if i had to upgrade later...ive seen 90 gal tanks for 30 40 bucks used around my way...so its not a big deal at all...mike another question...from that list u posted there how many are males??...i see u listed one auratus male but what about everything else???...i figure 1 male to the 3 females for the demasoni and acei..and a salousi male...what about the labs??...just get 2 females??...i want to try and have a breeding pair or 2 in the tank...what do u think...u got me going man...im liking these lil fish more and more everyday...tank is looking very stable...as i used alot of media from my older tanks so i give it maybe 3 or 4 more days and it should be good...also with the water quality these lil guys like is it bad to use r/o water??...anything i should know about???...im planning on running some crushed coral in the sump...and regular ph buffers...anything else u guys reccomend??...sorry for all the questions but i like being informed and i consider some of u guys here very knowledgable...thanks again
